Memorial to be held for slain transgender woman

BALTIMORE (AP) — A memorial service for a transgender woman who was killed in Baltimore in early July will be held Saturday.

A group will gather at The Spiritual Empowerment Center in Charles Village at 1 p.m. to celebrate the life of 26-year-old Mia Henderson, born Kevin Long, who was found dead in an alley on July 16.

Henderson was the second transgender woman killed in Baltimore this summer. One month before Henderson’s death, Kandy Hall, born Ricky Hall, was found stabbed to death in northeast Baltimore.

Baltimore police are investigating any possible connections between the two killings. There are no suspects in either case.
