Maryland trooper stops man from jumping off bridge

PORT DEPOSIT, Md. (AP) — Maryland State Police say a trooper saved the life of a man who appeared about to jump off a 90-foot bridge.

Saturday’s rescue on the Millard E. Tydings Memorial Bridge in Port Deposit was recorded by Trooper Joshua Kim’s dashboard camera.

Kim tells WBAL radio that he saw the man walking on the bridge, which carries Interstate 95 over the Susquehanna River in northeastern Maryland. Kim says he turned around and parked, but when he approached the man, the man began to climb over the bridge.

The video shows the 24-year-old Kim pulling the man from the wall to the ground and handcuffing him. Police say that was for his safety.

The man was taken to a local hospital. Troopers didn’t identify him.
