Norfolk neighborhood wants study on ODU stadium

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- Some residents in a Norfolk neighborhood want the city to pay for a study about how a larger football stadium and other projects at Old Dominion University might affect them.

The Virginian-Pilot reports (http://bit.ly/1o7s56C ) the Larchmont-Edgewater Civic League is worried the university's plans could lead to more crime and decreased property values. The neighborhood adjoins the university.

Two other civic leagues whose neighborhoods also border ODU have not expressed similar concerns.

Eight months ago, ODU's Board of Visitors approved a plan that outlines the university's growth over the next 20 years. It includes demolishing the football stadium to build a new one elsewhere and building a dormitory for about 2,000 students.

Mayor Paul Fraim, who lives in the neighborhood, says he understands the neighborhood's fears, but doesn't support a study.
