Week of Weird Al ends Monday (Videos)

WASHINGTON — The final installment of Weird Al Yankovic’s week-long release of new videos ends Monday.

The comedian, musician and parodist released his new album called “Mandatory Fun” this month and has been sharing a new video and song every day since July 14.

“I wanted release week to be an event,” Yankovic told WTOP’s Mike Murillo. The videos included “Tacky,” a take-off of Pharrell William’s “Happy,” and “Word Crimes,” a parody of “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke. Each has been released on a different website.

“A lot of people criticized the original Robin Thicke song for being misogynistic, so it’s nice that I can turn a song that’s been controversial into a song that could ostensibly be used in a school curriculum,” Yankovic told WTOP.

Yankovic, with his trademark long, curly hair, started playing the accordion at 8 years old, and this is his 14th album. It will likely be his last formal album as his record contract is expiring. Yankovic has emphasized that he is not retiring from music or comedy.
