District Taco in the works for Bethesda

District Taco's Arlington food cart, by Ethan Rothstein/ARLNow.comA local Mexican chain with humble beginnings has big expansion plans that include an eventual new location in Bethesda.

Osiris Hoil, co-owner of District Taco, said the restaurant is hoping to find a Bethesda location next year with the expectation of opening sometime in 2016. The Bethesda location would be run by one regional manager who would also be responsible for new locations in Merrifield and Reston.

The Bethesda location would be District Taco’s first in Maryland.

The fresh, Yucatan style taco and burrito joint has grown to four brick- and-mortar locations after starting as a lunchtime food stand in Arlington in 2009. Hoil was encouraged by family to start the operation after getting laid off from a construction job.

“We have a really good product. The product is fresh and is also affordable and healthy, so obviously that’s a good combination,” Hoil said. “We know Bethesda has a lot of the same things as Arlington and also there are a lot of families. We also know that Bethesda has a lot of people who are very healthy and into healthy food.”

A batch of new Virginia locations are in the works, including one in Alexandria, before Hoil and company make the leap across the Potomac.

“We know these things usually take about six months, including finding the new location and construction, Hoil said. “But we want to be in Bethesda.”
