Woman, 85, killed in Rock Hall house fire

ROCK HALL, Md. (AP) — Maryland fire investigators say an 85-year-old woman was killed in a house fire in Rock Hall.

The fire broke out shortly before 4 a.m. Tuesday in a two-story home in the small Kent County community.

The State Fire Marshal’s office says the home sustained heavy damage and part of the second floor collapsed atop the elderly victim. Her daughter tried to rescue her but was unable to do so. The daughter was treated at a hospital for minor burns.

Investigators are trying to determine the cause and origin of the fire. Damage to the home is estimated at $120,000.
