Mama pig, babies victims of vandalism

WASHINGTON – A mother pig and her piglets were tagged by vandals at a Frederick County petting farm.

The vandals also sprayed an information sign next to the pigs and took off with a tortoise named Henrietta who lived at Green Meadows Petting Farm in Monrovia.

Farmer and owner Ken Keyes says someone broke in between 9 p.m. Monday and 7:30 a.m. Tuesday and used veterinary antiseptic to spray the animals and walls. The blue-colored spray will not hurt the pigs but it will take some work to clean the sign, Keyes says.

The writing on the sign appears to say “Urbana Rules” and is likely a reference to nearby Urbana High School, he says.

“I’m not happy that somebody would come in and do that,” he says.

Farm staff say they have contacted police about the damage and the missing tortoise.

The farm is home to 300 animals that visitors can pet and feed. It’s open Wednesdays through Sundays through July 27.
