Jack Green, The Voice founder and publisher, dies

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Jack J. Green, founder and publisher of two community newspapers in Richmond and Hampton Roads, has died. He was 71.

The Voice says on its website that Green died Thursday from a chronic lung-related illness.

Green founded The Voice in 1985 to serve the black community. The weekly newspaper later became The Richmond Voice, followed by a sister publication, The Hampton Roads Voice.

Green also was a member of the Nottoway County Board of Supervisors, and past president of the Nottoway County Branch NAACP. He also was a past president of District IV Community Action Program in Hampton.

Green was a U.S. Air Force veteran who served in Vietnam.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
