Stabbing victim dies; murder charges to be filed

SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) — Montgomery County Police say a man who was stabbed in a Silver Spring apartment has died.

Officers say that 49-year-old Tomas Herrera Batres of Silver Spring died June 23 of injuries he sustained in the June 19 incident.

Police say Batres was stabbed multiple times in an apartment on Piney Branch Road. Shortly after the stabbing, 31-year-old Ulises Blanco-Melgar of no fixed address was arrested and charged with attempted murder and assault.

Officers said on Wednesday that an arrest warrant has been obtained charging Blanco-Melgar with first-degree murder.
