WASHINGTON — Dog lovers can get the chance to work with their furry friends on June 20 to celebrate the 16th annual Take Your Dog To Work Day.

The event is one of the longest-running online pet-adoption campaigns and has grown in popularity since its creation in 1999 by Pet Sitters International.

Employers are encouraged to open their workplace to employees’ four-legged friends on this day to celebrate the human-canine bond and promote pet adoptions from local shelters, rescue groups and humane societies.

For cat owners — or any kind of pet — the week leading up to Friday is Take Your Pet To Work Week, June 16 to 20.
