Silver Line delays could have a silver lining

WASHINGTON — It’s been six months since the Silver Line was supposed to open in Fairfax County. But the delays have actually been a good thing — at least for the people running the Fairfax Connector.

Once the Silver Line opens, 40 percent of the Connector routes will change.

Fairfax County Transportation Director Tom Biesiadny says that service that runs from Reston and Herndon into the West Falls Church Metro station will instead bring riders to Wiehle-Reston East.

Biesiadny adds that 270 drivers have been trained on all the new routes, and that the delays have “given us a lot of extra time to make sure that we’ve got all the details down [and] make sure everyone’s ready on day one, when the rail service opens.”

That will most likely happen in August, assuming the new Silver Line passes all the required tests.
