Va. broadcasters plan food bank campaign

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — The Virginia Association of Broadcasters is launching a year-long campaign to support the state’s seven regional food banks.

The association says the “Feeding Virginia” campaign begins July 1. More than 150 local radio and television stations will promote local food bank events and air public service announcements aimed at generating funds, food donations and public awareness.

First Lady Dorothy McAuliffe has agreed to serve as spokesman for the broadcasters’ campaign. She and Gov. Terry McAuliffe will appear in many of the public service announcements.

Brad Ramsey, president of the broadcasters’ association, says local radio and TV stations take pride in their work to build up their local communities and are excited to be uniting on an important statewide issue.
