A western Maryland physician faces charges he sexually assaulted a patient.

The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office says Dr. William Dando of Rawlings was indicted by a grand jury May 22 on charges of fourth-degree sex offense and unnatural or perverted practice.

Dando couldn’t be reached for comment Thursday by The Associated Press. He didn’t return a phone call to his home or respond to an email.

A 41-year-old woman told deputies in April that the 59-year-old doctor sexually assaulted her in an examination room at the MedExpress Urgent Care Center in LaVale. A spokeswoman says Dando no longer works for the Morgantown, West Virginia-based company.

Public records show that Dando served more than 3 1/2 years in prison in Florida for 1987 convictions for burglary and sexual battery.
