Md. man killed when car becomes airborne, flips

FRANKFORD, Del. (AP) — Delaware State Police say a Maryland man was killed when the car he was driving hit a pipe, became airborne, and flipped end over end before coming to rest in a ditch.

It happened about 4 p.m. Tuesday on Gum Road in Frankford. Troopers say 75-year-old Alfred E. Cochran of Ocean City was driving east when his car left the road on a slight curve and hit a culvert pipe.

Police say the vehicle became airborne and when it landed, on the right front, flipped end over end before coming to rest on the driver’s side in a ditch.

Police say Cochran was partially ejected from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident is under investigation.
