RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A collection of 26 artworks from the estate of philanthropist Paul Mellon has been donated to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/RfdcQZ) reports the museum announced the gift Thursday.
The artworks were bequeathed to the museum after Mellon’s death in 1999. They remained in the care of his widow, Rachel “Bunny” Mellon, at their Upperville home until her death in March.
Among the collection are pieces by Edgar Degas and Vincent van Gogh.
Sixty-two other artworks from the Mellon estate have been transferred to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
