CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) — A Norfolk man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for hiring a friend to kill his estranged wife.
Twenty-eight-year-old Cory Abshire pleaded guilty Thursday in Chesapeake Circuit Court to one count of first-degree murder in the death of Rachel Abshire.
Court documents show she was stabbed to death in January 2013 inside her Chesapeake apartment.
The Virginian-Pilot (http://bit.ly/1oZuH6s) reports that under a plea agreement, Cory Abshire was sentenced to 40 years in prison, with 15 years of that suspended.
Marcus Hofferber awaits sentencing for his guilty plea last year to first-degree murder, conspiracy and armed burglary.
Both Hofferber and Cory Abshire were Navy petty officers. Hofferber testified Cory Abshire offered him $25,000 in insurance money to carry out the crime.
