Va. theater evacuated after sounds of explosion

FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) — Officials are investigating after someone set off two soda bottle chemical devices at a movie theater complex in Fairfax County, scaring patrons who fled after hearing noises that sounded like firecrackers or gunshots.

Fairfax County Police say it happened around 12:15 a.m. Sunday at the AMC Tysons Corner 16 movie theater complex. Police say moviegoers called 911 and reported suspicious “popping noises.”

Fairfax County police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell says no one was injured during the incident. About 2,000 people in the theater and food court were evacuated while officials investigated.

Anyone with information is asked to call Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.
