Minivan strikes couple arguing in street

HUGHESVILLE, Md. (AP) — Authorities say a man and a woman were struck and killed by a minivan as they stood in the middle of a dark roadway in Charles County.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office says a witness reported seeing the couple arguing as they stood outside a car, which was stopped in the middle of the road.

Police say a minivan came over the crest of a hill and struck the pair. Twenty-five-year-old Steven Briggs of Brandywine died at the scene. Twenty-four-year-old Leeann Robinson of Lexington Park was flown to a trauma center but died on arrival.

The driver of the minivan remained on the scene. The crash occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Burnt Store Road in Hughesville.
