Arlington looks to limit pub crawls

Tuesday - 5/6/2014, 7:06am  ET

WASHINGTON -- Arlington, Virginia is considering limiting bar crawls.

Just weeks ago, a St. Patrick's Day crawl in Clarendon led to 45 police calls, 17 fights, 25 arrests, 16 calls for medics, 105 escorts for people stumbling to cabs and 10 incidents of public urination, including one on a police car.

Arlington Police Chief Douglas Scott last week held a community meeting with board members, bar owners and event promoters to hash out limits on the number of crawls and the number of tickets sold. Some 5,400 people showed up for the St. Paddy's Day event.

Bar owners tell The Washington Post the events are a much needed boost for local businesses.

The Arlington County board will seek public input before taking any action.
