EDENTON, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina's governor is seeking federal help to recover from destructive tornadoes that claimed a young boy's life just days shy of his first birthday, warning more severe weather is headed into the South.
Gov. Pat McCrory on Monday began efforts to secure federal funds to help with costs of recovery from the storms that pummeled four coastal counties Friday, one of which fatally injured 11-month-old Gavin Soto.
A great-aunt, Sue Brown, said the boy's funeral on Wednesday comes a day before he would have turned 1. Brown said the child was in a century-old frame house on his grandfather's farm that collapsed in high winds.
More than a dozen people were reported injured and around 200 home and businesses destroyed or damaged Friday.
