Benefit for Va. store clerk recovering from armed robbery

WASHINGTON –A shooter is still on the loose, and a local store clerk continues to recover in Spotsylvania, Va., where a armed robbery shot her in the head and left her for dead.

It’s been nearly a month since a man shot Kelly Wood at FasMart on Brock Road and Route 3, and fled. “I was thinking I want to live. I want to get through this, thinking about my family, my husband,” Wood, a wife and mother of three, tells NBC 4.

The robber, who was caught on a security camera during the violent robbery on March 8, is described as Caucasian, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a reddish brown beard or goatee that’s about 2 inches long. The beard may have white or gray highlights.

The man wore a black hoodie and khaki style pants and black gloves. He asked the victim for a tin of a Grizzly brand smokeless tobacco. He didn’t take any money, according to police, but he did make off with a display case containing different cold products and ephedrine products.

“Her spirits are good. Unfortunately her mouth is still wired shut,” said Sherry McGregor, FasMart district manager for the area. McGregor is amazed by how Wood is facing her fears. She’s gone back into the store where the shooting happened several times now.

A motorcycle ride and fundraising event is being held today to help out the Wood family. Meanwhile there is a $10,000 reward for the man who shot her. Anyone with information is being urged to call the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office at 540- 582-7115 or Text a tip with SEE911 to CRIMES (274637).
