Va. school gets OK to resume using well water

Wednesday - 4/2/2014, 9:31am  ET

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) -- Tap water is flowing again at a Virginia Beach school nearly seven months after bacteria were found in its wells.

Schools spokeswoman Lauren Wicks tells The Virginian-Pilot (http://bit.ly/PhYkRk ) that the Virginia Department of Health cleared the two wells for drinking water after tests last week came back clean.

Students and staff at Creeds Elementary School in Pungo had been using bottled water and portable hand-washing stations.

The water restrictions were imposed after water from the wells tested positive for bacteria several times since Sept. 20, 2013. In two cases, the E. coli bacteria were found.

A chlorination system was installed last month.
