HAMPTON, Va. (AP) -- Langley Air Force Base is being recognized for its efforts to care for trees.
The National Arbor Day Foundation has designated the Hampton base as a Tree City USA. The national program recognizes and promotes communities that take special steps to care for trees.
Officials say Langley achieved the designation by meeting the program's four requirements. Those include having a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
