ELLENDALE, Del. (AP) -- Delaware State Police say a Virginia man was hurt when the car he was driving failed to stop at a railroad crossing and was hit by a train.

It happened about 1:30 p.m. Monday on Main Street in Ellendale. Troopers say 35-year-old Brandon Rudy of Vienna, Va., drove into the path of a Norfolk Southern train with three engines and 22 cars attached.

Police say the train stopped without derailing. No one on the train was hurt.

Rudy was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

The accident is under investigation.
