COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) -- Timmy Bond scored 16 points, and Omari George added 15 plus 11 rebounds as City College pulled away late for a 59-48 victory over Westlake in the Class 3A state title game on Saturday afternoon.
City finished the season with a 27-0 record. This was the school's first state title since 2010 and third overall.
The game remained close for much of the second half, but Westlake (22-5) outscored the Knights by nine in the third quarter to take a 43-41 lead into the final period.
City took command after that. The Knights outscored the Wolverines, 18-5 in the fourth quarter, ending the game on a 12-2 run.
Chris Craft led Westlake with 10 points. This was the school's first appearance in a state championship game.
