‘Cake Boss’ Buddy Valastro looking for space in D.C.

Popular baker Buddy Valastro, the star of TLC’s “Cake Boss,” has his eye on the D.C. region.

The gregarious owner of Carlo’s Bake Shop in Hoboken, N.J., is seeking sites in and around the District, according to a flier being circulated to many of the region’s retail real estate brokers obtained by TopShelf.

Although most of Valastro’s retail bakeries are in New Jersey, he opened the Cake Boss Cafe in New York’s Times Square in 2013. The Cake Boss Cafe sells pastries, cakes, cookies and other sweet treats, according to its Facebook page.

Valastro is looking for 2,500 to 2,800 square feet in densely populated high-income neighborhoods, according to the flier. The concept is an “Italian bakery featuring cakes, cannolis, sweets … no bread sandwiches or savory pastries.”

The site should also have venting, which suggests that the D.C. version of the Cake Boss Cafe would do some baking on site.

The broker listed on the flier, Lawrence Hoffman of H&R Retail, did not return calls for comment. An email to the press contact on Valastro’s website has not been returned.
