FREDERICKSBURG, Va. (AP) -- Shannon Airport in Spotsylvania County has been sold to a Fredericksburg-area businessman.
Luke Curtas and his wife, Kim, acquired the general aviation airport from Aire Shannon Inc.
Luke Curtas tells The Free Lance-Star (http://bit.ly/1c4PH6P ) that he plans to refurbish the property and continue to operate it as an airport.
Within a few years, Curtas says he wants to build a new manufacturing plant at or near the airport for his companies, Mid-Atlantic Vinyl Products and Regency Polymer Materials.
He says Billie Tombs, one of Aire Shannon's principals, will continue to manage the airport. The other principal, Robert Stanley, plans to pursue other interests.
Curtas declined to reveal the sale price.
Businessman Sidney Shannon opened the airport in 1950. Aire Shannon had owned and operated the airport since 1997.
