WASHINGTON (AP) -- Authorities say a winter storm has closed all runways at Reagan National Airport.
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority says the three runways are closed Monday morning while crews plow and treat the airfield.
Meanwhile, the Washington area has been hit hard by flight cancellations. Thousands have been canceled nationwide and Daniel Baker of the tracking service FlightAware.com said the biggest impact is on flights in and out of the Washington area.
At Reagan National Airport, more than 60 percent of the flights were cancelled before runways closed.
At Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, nearly half the flights are cancelled, but the airport is open.
There were fewer cancellations at Washington Dulles International Airport with about 25 percent cancelled. Officials say three runways are open there, but few flights are operating.
