EMS supervisor injured in crash while responding to fire

WASHINGTON – A Prince George’s County EMS captain was injured in a crash while responding to a fire Tuesday afternoon.

Fire officials say the captain, an EMS supervisor, was driving south on Landover Road near the intersection with Arena Drive in Largo when another car T-boned his Chevy Tahoe.

Fire officials say the fire department vehicle had its lights and sirens turned on as it stopped to cross the intersection. The other vehicle drove around stopped traffic and entered the intersection, hitting the EMS truck in the side.

The driver, a woman whose name was not released, suffered minor injuries.

The captain, whose name was also not released, was knocked unconscious and was taken to a local hospital for tests. After regaining consciousness, he was able to speak with fire officials and “sounded in good condition,” fire officials say.

County police are investigating the crash, which closed the intersection for nearly two hours, fire officials say.
