WASHINGTON (AP) -- Authorities say a six-mile stretch of Route 17 in Frederick County, Md., is closed due to a fallen tree and power lines.

Potomac Edison says the pine tree came down Thursday morning near the intersection of 17 and U.S. 40 after heavy overnight snow.

Maryland State Police say the road is closed between Myersville and Middletown.

Maryland troopers say a five-car pileup on eastbound Interstate 68 near Sideling Hill sent five people to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

The slick roads played havoc with tractor-trailers. Three were involved in a crash that closed westbound Interstate 70 for an hour.

Police say a tractor-trailer ran off a ramp near the Woodrow Wilson Bridge on Washington's Capital Beltway. And another slid into a ditch on southbound I-95 at Route 32 south of Baltimore.
