Report: Many more DC students taking AP exams

Tuesday - 2/11/2014, 4:10am  ET

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The number of students in District of Columbia public schools who are taking Advanced Placement exams has increased dramatically in the last decade.

A report from the College Board being released Tuesday shows that nearly 1800 students from the class of 2013 took an AP exam during high school. That accounts for roughly half the number of graduates and is nearly three times higher than the number of 2003 graduates who took an exam.

The report shows that 14 percent of 2013 seniors who took an exam scored a 3 or higher. That's the grade many colleges and universities require to issue college credit for AP classwork

Advanced Placement exams offer a way for students to earn college credit while still in high school. They're offered in 34 different subjects.
