WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) -- A Delaware teenager has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for fatally shooting a woman who was the victim of a home invasion.
Daiquan Reams, an 18-year-old Wilmington man, told a judge at his sentencing Friday that he shot Tamekia Kearney in May 2012 because "I just wanted to fit in."
The News Journal of Wilmington reports (http://delonline.us/1bGoQvI ) that prosecutors struggled to get witnesses to cooperate and agreed as part of a plea deal to recommend no more than 15 years for Reams.
Reams was 17 at the time of the shooting. He told investigators that he killed the 28-year-old Kearney, a mother, to help a friend who had been involved in the home invasion.
Kearney had been cooperating with the police at the time of the crime.
