WASHINGTON – The snowstorm that never was, or perhaps you can call it “The Great Social Media Blizzard of 2014.”
Although I believe that we will still see some light snow showers across the region this weekend, it will not be the blockbuster snow that’s been whispered around the water cooler.
Saturday: A piece of upper level energy will move in from the southwest Friday night into Saturday morning. As it travels across the southern tier of our listening area through the day on Saturday, snow showers will spread across our area from southwest to northeast (with some rain mixed in mainly south of the District). Temperatures will rise into the mid 30s, upper 30s south with cloudy skies and light winds. The timing to see some snow will likely be through the morning hours (7 to 10 a.m.). The snow will continue into the afternoon and wil be all over and done with by 5 p.m. I’m still not expecting that much of accumulation. The snow will be wet and less than 1 inch will fall.

By 5 a.m. Sunday morning, most locations will see less than 1 inch of snow accumulation.
Sunday: A second piece of upper level energy will scoot across Pennsylvania on Sunday. As far as timing, we could see some light snow/rain showers on Sunday during the day and again during the evening hours and perhaps a flurry or sprinkle overnight. But other than that, we can expect less than a half inch of snow. The chance of seeing precipitation at your house is only about 30 percent Sunday.

Total snow accumulation for the weekend is expected to reach no more than 1 inch. Minimal accumulation is expected.
Next week: Temperatures will remain below our normal temperature, which is usually around the mid-40s, through Valentine’s Day, Friday. And yes, there are signs that another storm could move in during Wednesday and Thursday.
