Va. dentist pleads guilty to obstruction charge

Wednesday - 2/5/2014, 9:13am  ET

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) -- A Roanoke County dentist has pleaded guilty to attempting to obstruct an investigation of patient refunds.

Robert Stanley Kidder faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is set for June 26.

The Roanoke Times (http://bit.ly/N1uCiP ) reports that Kidder entered his plea Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Roanoke.

The charge stems from a federal investigation of allegations that Kidder didn't refund overpayments to patients who had made deposits for treatment.

FBI agent Bryan Emmerson testified that Kidder fired an employee who had discovered the overpayments. He says Kidder also staged a burglary and stole his own computer in an attempt to obstruct the investigation.
