CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) -- The University of Virginia's Curry School of Education has received a $300,000 grant to gauge a mentoring program's influence on girls.

Three faculty members and a postdoctoral student received the grant from the U.S. Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. It will measure the long-term impact of U.Va.'s Young Women Leaders Program.

The program promotes leadership skills and pairs U.Va. female students with local middle school girls for a year, both in group and one-on-one mentoring.

The program now has 10 sister sites nationwide and five internationally.
