WASHINGTON (AP) -- A 29-year-old woman has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison as a result of a 2012 shooting at an International House of Pancakes restaurant in Washington.
LaShawn Carson was sentenced Thursday. A jury found her guilty of aggravated assault while armed and other offenses after a trial that ended in October.
Prosecutors told the jury that at 5:30 a.m. on March 11, 2012, Carson was eating at the restaurant in Columbia Heights when she and a friend got into a dispute with another customer. A fight ensued during which Carson pulled out a gun and shot the victim once in the chest.
A message left for Carson's attorney was not immediately returned Thursday afternoon.
