HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The owner of a Boonsboro assisted-living center is going to prison for neglecting an Alzheimer's patient who fell through the floor.
Fifty-four-year-old Dickson Tabi (tab-EE') of Silver Spring was sentenced Monday in Hagerstown to three years in prison.
Tabi operated the Soma Manor House in August 2012 when the 84-year-old woman fell through a hole in an unfinished, second-story bathroom. She suffered a head injury and several broken bones, resulting in a permanent loss of mobility.
Police say Tabi waited more than five hours to call an ambulance, and then denied knowing how the woman got hurt. Investigators say he also tried to cover up the incident by patching the damaged ceiling.
Tabi apologized in court. He says he panicked initially but eventually did the right thing.
