RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Roadside assistance calls to AAA Mid-Atlantic are up in Virginia because of cold temperatures.
AAA Mid-Atlantic spokeswoman Martha Meade says calls jumped 60 percent between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. Tuesday. Calls remained higher than normal two hours later.
Meade says in a news release that the increase likely is also due to late school openings in some areas.
The majority of calls were from motorists whose cars had dead batteries, wouldn't start, or needed to be towed.
Meade says AAA Mid-Atlantic expects a similar volume of calls on Wednesday morning.
