CHESTERFIELD, Va. (AP) -- A 30-year-old Colonial Heights man has been sentenced to 1.5 years in prison for killing his best friend in an alcohol-related crash in Chesterfield County.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/KAjlEO ) reports that Aaron B. Christy was sentenced Monday in Chesterfield Circuit Court after pleading guilty in October to manslaughter.
Christy had been drinking at a restaurant in Petersburg with 29-year-old Andrew N. Buhrman on June 8 when he later lost control of his vehicle and crashed, killing Buhrman.
A prosecutor said Christy served two tours in Iraq as a Marine and suffers from post-traumatic stress syndrome and has a history of alcohol abuse.
While sentencing guidelines call for a maximum prison term of 10 years, Christy's record and social history called for a maximum of 2 years, 10 months.
