Md. public schools grapple with frigid forecasts

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Some Maryland public school districts are responding to cold weather forecasts with closures and delayed openings.

Garrett and Allegany county public schools in the mountains of far western Maryland said Monday they'll be closed Tuesday. The National Weather Service says temperatures in the higher elevations will fall below zero Tuesday morning and struggle to get above the single digits during the day.

Prince George's County public schools will open two hours late Tuesday because of the cold weather. The National Weather Service says temperatures in Prince George's County will fall to about 7 degrees by Tuesday morning, with highs in the mid-teens.

Frostburg State University in Allegany County says it will be closed Tuesday due to the cold weather.
