1 dead after head-on crash in Silver Spring

SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) -- Police say an 18-year-old is dead after a head-on collision on Old Columbia Pike in Silver Spring.

Montgomery County Police say the crash happened around 2:40 a.m. Saturday in the 11700 block of the roadway.

Police say a preliminary investigation indicates a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling southbound when a 2003 Infiniti traveling northbound crossed the center line and the two cars collided. A passenger sitting in the front seat of the Infiniti was pronounced dead at the scene. Police identified him as 18-year-old Oscar Alexander Orellana of Wheaton.

The driver of the Infiniti, identified as 19-year-old Cristian Omar Vargas of Wheaton, and a rear passenger were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe was also taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
