RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- President Barack Obama has nominated U.S. Magistrate Judge M. Hannah Lauck to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Lauck has served as a federal magistrate in the Eastern District of Virginia since 2005.

She previously worked as a supervising attorney at Genworth Financial Inc. from 2004 to 2005. Lauck was an assistant U.S. attorney for 10 years before that.

If confirmed by the Senate, she would replace U.S. District Judge James Spencer, who plans to take senior status in March. Lauck began her legal career as a law clerk for Spencer from 1991 to 1992.

She received her law degree in 1991 from Yale Law School.
