W.Va. crews to repair hillside along I-77

PRINCETON, W.Va. -- West Virginia highways crews are bringing down a slipping hillside along Interstate 77 near the Virginia border.

The Division of Highways says an eight-mile stretch of I-77 in Mercer County along with a road that runs parallel to the interstate will be closed to traffic between 10 a.m. and noon Friday to allow crews to set off explosives and clean up debris.

The DOH says the southbound lanes will be reopened soon after the debris is removed, while one northbound lane is expected to be opened by nightfall.

The second northbound lane, which has been closed over a half-mile stretch since Dec. 2, will remain closed indefinitely to allow for additional debris removal.

Traffic is being rerouted while the interstate is shut down.
