MIAMI (AP) -- Zoo Miami has sent the last surviving lion cub from a litter born in September to a Baltimore zoo to be raised with other cubs.
The 3-month-old female lion cub was one of three born Sept. 24. They were the first lions born at Zoo Miami in its 33-year history.
However, two male cubs died of apparent maternal neglect and from what officials say may have been a congenital condition.
Zoo staff decided it would be better to send the surviving cub to be raised with other lion cubs at Maryland Zoo in Baltimore.
Zoo Miami officials tell The Miami Herald (http://hrld.us/1e51vXy ) that they hope the cub will be properly socialized with other cubs so that it can be introduced into a pride as an adult.
