RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Virginia Rep. Bobby Scott is joining a congressional delegation to South Africa to attend memorial services for former South African President Nelson Mandela.
Officials say the delegation left early Monday to head to Johannesburg for Mandela's memorial services on Tuesday.
The ceremony is expected to draw numerous world leaders including President Barack Obama.
Mandela died Thursday at age 95.
Upon Mandela's passing, Scott said the world lost one of its most unwavering advocates for freedom, democracy, and equality.
