FROSTBURG, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police say severe wind and snow contributed to a fatal crash in western Maryland near Frostburg.

Police say 42-year-old William Volk of Frostburg was killed late Saturday night in the crash. Police say 41-year-old Veryl Rafferty Jr., was driving a truck and lost control, spinning across the westbound lanes. The vehicle struck a utility pole and overturned.

Police say the driver was contending with unfavorable road conditions. Two other passengers who were in the truck refused any medical treatment.

The crash happened about 11 p.m. on Route 40 east of Finzel Road.
