ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) -- An Arlington County judge has sentenced a 17-year-old involved in a fatal skateboarding accident to a weekend in jail.
The Washington Post reports (http://wapo.st/17OIaHa ) that the teen, who was sentenced as a juvenile, apologized Thursday to the family of 18-year-old John Malvar, who died in the June accident.
Authorities say Malvar was riding his skateboard while hanging on to a vehicle being driven by the 17-year-old. When Malvar lost his grip, he fell and suffered a fatal head wound.
The 17-year-old pleaded guilty to reckless driving in September. In addition to the weekend in jail, the teen was sentenced six months of probation and 100 hours of community service.
