Bartender: Accused predator seemed like a ‘regular customer’

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The weekly routine of an accused sexual predator was like clockwork, according to employees at one of his favorite bars.

“He just seemed like a regular customer,” says a bartender who asked to remain anonymous.

Montgomery County police say Joey Poindexter, 38, of Gaithersburg, Md. went to Looney’s Pub in College Park every Wednesday evening, playing beer pong and searching for potential victims.

“I would serve him drinks throughout the night. He had a couple friends that would come in with him every week. They would all just get their drinks and put them on his tab and he would buy their tab,” he says.

Authorities arrested Poindexter last month after one man stepped forward and claimed he was assaulted. Investigators believe that individual is one in a very long line of victims over the course of several years, possibly across many states.

According to police, the men were extremely intoxicated when the assaults took place. Poindexter’s bartender never saw evidence of that at the pub.

“It’s not like he would buy people shots and shots to try and get them drunk or anything like that,” he says.

Investigators are looking into whether Poindexter drugged the men, and they are searching for victims who can step forward with their stories.
