NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- Five players scored in double figures led by Aaron Bacote with 20 as Old Dominion pulled away for a 77-57 win over Howard Wednesday night.
It was the first win for the Monarchs (1-1) under new coach Jeff Jones.
Jordan Baker came off the bench to add 13 for Old Dominion. Dimitri Batten added 12 and Denzell Taylor and Richard Ross scored 10 apiece.
Ross had a double-double, grabbing 12 rebounds and had six blocks, both career highs.
James Daniel had 26 to lead Howard (2-1) and Prince Okoroh had 10.
The Monarchs led 35-29 at the half but an eight-point surge by Baker helped make it 58-40 with 10:49 left.
Old Dominion shot 53.6 percent in the second half to pull away while the Bison were connecting on less than 30 percent of their shots. The Monarchs struggled from the foul line, making just 13 of 30 free throws.
