Prison for woman in Va. for failed hired killing

ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (AP) -- A former elementary school nurse in Franklin County has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for her role in a failed hired killing.

The Roanoke Times (http://bit.ly/GT2KcU) reports that 38-year-old Cathy Warren Benefit received the punishment Thursday in Franklin County Circuit Court. The sentence included credit for time served and probation upon her release.

Bennett pleaded guilty in August to conspiracy to solicit murder. The charge stems from her involvement in the payment of $4,000 to have a co-worker's ex-husband killed.

But they paid the money to an undercover investigator.

Her partner in crime, Angela Nolen, was sentenced last month to eight years in prison. Nolen was a kindergarten teacher at the same school where Bennett worked.
